I've been riding my '88 Savage since April of '01 (first bike, bought with 2,061 miles on it) and I love it.
I also had a nasty buzz from the headlight. It was the retaining ring buzzing against the headlight at the bottom. I took a business card (any piece of paper about the same thickness should work) and wedged it between the ring and the headlight. No more buzz.
A few weeks after that, my speedometer started buzzing big time. It was so loose you could grab the front of the speedometer and pull it up almost 1/2 inch. I drained and removed the tank to get to the speedometer. There are 3 posts that the speedometer mounts to. On each post there's a small spring to take up some space and to hold everything tight. I added 2 small washers on each post to compress the spring more. Then re-assembled everything. Works great now!
